Mr. V's house is going to settlement tomorrow! This well loved home was well lived in for 43 years. But when it was time to sell, "well lived" looked a little more like "well worn". Mr. V was adamant about not spending any money or doing any work on the house to get it ready to put it on the market. He did allow us, however, to remove some old fashioned aluminum awnings along the side of the house, and some ancient draperies, to allow in more light. A few more small tweaks and we were on the market!
However, the dated paneling and older brown carpets did not photograph well and despite lots of advertising and open houses we had very little traffic. The potential buyers who did come through the house thought that it was "priced too high" and that there was "too much work to be done".

We dropped the price slightly to try and spark some more interest but the fact remained that buyers could not envision what the house would look like with some updates. After more than 2 months on the market Mr. V finally agreed to allow us to remove the paneling and carpets in the living room and dining room as well as a couple of bedrooms.
We took new photos and the house went from "dated" to "darling". We had a contract on the house within 2 weeks! Mr. V moved into his new digs at Maris Grove, an Erickson Community, on Monday. He still has a lot of unpacking to do but is thrilled to be part of a vibrant community and doesn't miss his paneling at all!
